Pretoria born Wilkie Andrew Louw, now 25 years old, picked up a guitar at the age of 11.
As with many musicians, Wilkie also grew up in a musically orientated family environment. His musical influences include Tool, Silverchair and Filter. But suggests that his all time favourite is definitely Led Zeplin, and oh, Jimmy Hendrix, simply for being so cool. Wilkie also finds Jeff Buckley’s music very inspiring.
Wilkie played lead guitar for a band call “Pinups”, but as he comments, it wasn’t meant to be.
When he is not plucking the guitar strings, Wilkie turns design concepts for Architects and Interior Designers into photorealistic rendered masterpieces through his company called “PinUp Studios” – (there’s that name again).
It was quiet by chance that Wilkie found himself auditioning for the Lead Guitar position in Scarlet Box. Jenna and Jitka both knew Wilkie from their social circle of friends, but never knew that he actually played guitar.
When the opportunity presented itself, Wilkie put his hand up, and secured the slot at the audition well before he had completed the last riff of Everybody’s God.
