Pretoria based Scarlet Box have been on the music scene since 2005 when they released their debut album. Since then there have been line-up changes and plenty of touring and much song writing. As they stand on the brink of releasing their follow-up album, they have just singed an endorsement deal with Luna Guitars.
“We were keen to sign up Scarlet Box because they reflect the kind of feminine power and diversity that the Luna guitars seeks to cater for,” commented Marc Junius importer and distributor of Luna Guitars in South Africa, “They play a full range of songs from acoustic type ballades to power rock songs and therefore present a great showcase for the sound and versatility of the Luna Guitar range.”
Luna Guitars are the brainchild of Yvonne de Villiers whose mother Hilda Williers, an electric bass player for more than 40 years. For years, Yvonne watched her pioneering mom perform with a succession of popular rock groups. As her mom's #1 fan, Yvonne couldn't help but notice the physical struggle that petite Hilda went through each time she'd strap on a heavy electric bass and take the stage to play the music she loves.
Realising that there must be other female musicians like her mother, Yvonne created Luna Guitars - a line of instruments made for female musicians of all ages and crafted with a luminous visual beauty to engage women's minds and spirits along with their talent.
“I was introduced to Luna one day when I casually walked into a music store,” explains Jenna, singer and guitarist for Scarlet Box, “The pink glitter axe just jumped out at me, immediately grabbing my attention! I love everything about Luna Guitars. The look, the weight, the message. Everything caters perfectly for a girls needs, right down to the physical size of the neck which is thinner and shorter, for our smaller hands!”
Scarlet Box bass player Jitka, will also be playing Luna, and she selected the Andromeda bass as her instrument. “Whilst Jenna is into the softer and more feminine feature of Luna Guitars, I have opted for the Andromeda Bass,” she said of her choice, “this bass has a harder feel about it, for the less girly girl. I have found that the darker image, along with the lightweight, cutaway styling suits my playing style, and image, perfectly.”
Scarlet Box has had a very busy 2008 so far: member changes, song writing and recording the second album. But with that now all in place, Scarlet Box are launching their second album, “And The Rest Of Us Die Out,” on 14 June at Boston Tea Party in Menlyn, hosted by Tuks FM.
“One of the factors which is often commented on in South Africa is the lack of female artists on stage and their music at the record stores,” continued Junius, “Apart from any other factors that are involved, guitars can often be too big and heavy for women and Luna offers a great alternative: quality, beautifully tailor made guitars for women!”
These unique instruments are now available countrywide at all fine music stores in South Africa. For more product information and trade enquiries contact Marc or David on 011 913 4224 or 082 902 6452
